This project involved the structural transformation of a new 40-foot Double Door ISO container into a highly modified transportable enclosure for a mobile drinking water treatment plant.
The engineering scope focused on maintaining structural integrity despite extensive modifications, while providing sufficient installation space for the client’s water treatment equipment and ensuring reliable transportation between multiple deployment locations.

Engineering note

Technical Challenges
The project required maintaining the structural rigidity of an ISO container after removing a complete corner post, introducing a sliding roof, multiple service openings and large equipment access panels while preserving safe transportability and long-term operational durability.

Integrated 3D Design Process
The project was developed using a collaborative 3D design workflow between POLKONT structural engineers and the customer’s process engineering team.
Continuous exchange of engineering models enabled precise coordination of structural modifications, equipment interfaces and installation requirements before manufacturing.
Structural FEM Verification
Before fabrication, the modified container was verified using finite element analysis.
The simulations evaluated structural performance in three operating conditions:
- transport on trailer
- lifting operations
- operational support on ground
The analysis verified deformation limits and structural safety after all planned modifications.
